Passengers can soon enjoy their margaritas in the terminal.

Pretty soon San Antonians won’t have to under a new amendment to an ordinance that will let you carry those drinks outside of airport restaurants.
San Antonio City Council amended an ordinance Thursday, June 16, that will allow San Antonio International Airport passengers waiting for their flights to carry alcoholic drinks in the public terminal areas, something that previously wasn’t allowed. Agenda documents say the change will go into effect on June 26.
On that Sunday, any San Antonians taking a summer flight can now sip their margarita or beer while sitting in the terminal area, bringing those restaurants in the airport in compliance with House Bill 1024, the pandemic-era alcohol-to-go law that Texas put into effect in May 2021.
The billion-dollar terminal development plan includes numerous upgrades including a new 17-gate terminal seen in this rendering on the right.
Courtesy of San Antonio International AirportThe airport currently has about 17 restaurant and bar options in terminals A and B, according to its website. Out of those, you can grab drinks at places like Rosario’s, La Fruteria, Sala, La Gloria, and Vino Volo. You also have restaurants like The Luxury landing at the terminal soon.
A move like this could make the SAT more of a destination airport. The city is already planning to spend $2 billion to overhaul the airport, which includes a new 17-gate terminal. Plus, we will soon have a Whataburger. Maybe they’ll finally deliver on the potential of this hypothetical Shiner collab.
