Erica Diaz has been making cakes for friends and family for eight years, and now the rest of Worcester will have a chance to enjoy them.
Diaz and her husband Jason opened Taste Great Cakes at 98 Hamilton Street on Wednesday.
They announced a soft opening on April 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in a post to the business’ Facebook page.
The post said coffee would be on and there would be a variation of cake, selection of cupcakes, chocolate covered treats, dipped berries and candied fruit available.
Diaz said Wednesday that business has been pretty good so far and that they’ve been busy all day.
The business will take custom cake and treat orders. Diaz said she has designed hundreds of different cakes over the years.
“I like to create something out of nothing and I like the reaction I get from others after creating a cake,” Diaz said.
Her favorite cakes to design right now are Art Deco cakes, but she said it changes every few months.
Her husband was the one who got her into cake decorating to begin with, she said.
“It gave me something to do after becoming a stay-at-home mom for the first time at 30,” Diaz said.
On the businesses Facebook page it says the cake orders require 24 hours notice in most occasions.
“We separate ourselves from local grocery stores and other competitors by offering these succulent treats that will leave you wanting just one more bite,” the Facebook page reads.
The location used to house Lee’s Bakery which offered mediterranean baked goods.
Diaz’s business will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, and closed Monday, according to the Facebook page.
“We are just completely blown away by all the support especially from all the people in the neighborhood,” Diaz said.
