Spoilt for choice doesn’t even begin to cover the seemingly-endless menu of sweet treats available at Heavenly Desserts in Cambridge. While it is a dessert restaurant, the extent of the options goes far beyond what I’d expect even from an ordinary restaurant.
So, of course, I had to order multiple items and settled on a virgin passionfruit cocktail, mango mochi ice cream, dark chocolate and pistachio croffle and a chocolate shot. I went for the croffle because I’ve never had one before: for fellow newbies, it’s a waffle made with croissant dough.
There couldn’t be a better explanation of what it was like: it was literally a waffle that tasted like a freshly-made croissant. It was therefore lighter and fluffier than the banoffee waffle my companion had, but that looked delicious too.

The restaurant has a very Instagram-friendly vibe, with booths, bright lights and a pastel colour scheme. You probably couldn’t describe the décor as particularly exciting or original, but the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcoming and there were plenty of other guests even on a weeknight.
In fact, Heavenly Desserts (which can be found on Christ’s Lane) is usually fairly busy, perhaps because it appeals not only to people like me with a sweet tooth but also to the multiple demographics of people who want to enjoy a quiet night out without alcohol.
The restaurant is Halal – meaning it’s popular with Muslims – and the lack of alcohol also makes it a good hang-out spot for young teenagers and families with kids. It’s also a popular takeaway, perhaps with those craving something sweet after their evening meal.
All of the desserts I tried were beautifully presented and they weren’t just style over substance. The shot of Belgian milk chocolate was deliciously rich and decadent while the mochi ice cream was packed with flavour.
Meanwhile, my companion said of her choices: “The blood orange lemonade was really refreshing; kind of tart and not overly sickly like I was worried it would be. The banoffee Belgian waffle was cooked really well and it’s a classic for a reason.
“The pistachio mochi had a really subtle flavour; they’re not the easiest thing to eat, especially with sensitive teeth, but it was a nice change to the typical mochi flavours.”
If you try Heavenly Desserts, you might find yourself going back for another slice of heaven. The choices really do feel endless and it’ll take lots of trips to feel you’ve tried them all.
