  • Lemon juice – or use lime juice if you prefer.

Other Fruit You Can Add

  • For red fruits – red apples and watermelon and cherries and dried cranberries
  • For green fruits – try green apples, green melon, etc.

If adding apples, squeeze some lemon juice over them as you want to avoid them turning brown during chopping.

Tips For Success

  • This salad works best with ripe fruit, so choose ripe but firm fruit.
  • Stir gently when mixing in the fruit salad dressing to avoid mashing the raspberries.
  • Don’t cut fruit pieces too small, to avoid smaller pieces going squishy.
  • You can serve immediately, but letting stand for a few hours really helps bring out the flavor.
  • I love serving this holiday fruit salad in a glass trifle dish or glass bowl so that the colors pop through.

Delicious Variations

  • Make it citrusy – add some lemon or lime zest and also a little orange zest.
  • Add in some crunch – toss in some slivered almonds or shredded coconut for texture and white color.
  • Vary the dressing – make a honey lime dressing or pomegranate dressing.
  • If you prefer to make it a winter fruit salad, then go ahead and change it up with seasonal fruits you can find.
  • Mix up the fruit – vary depending on what you have around.

Make Ahead And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – This is one of those fruit salad recipes that tastes nice after a couple of hours. Prep ahead 2-3 hours beforehand, refrigerate and mix occasionally for the flavor to develop.
  • Store – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours. It is best if you remove as much air as possible, so probably easiest with a ziptop bag.
  • Freeze – I don’t recommend freezing this recipe.

FAQS

Can I Use Frozen Fruit?

Best to use fresh fruit, not frozen fruit, as thawed fruits end up being mushy for this.
