I’ve got “a thing” for hot dips. My Crock Pot Spinach Artichoke Dip is on repeat during the holidays, and Buffalo Chicken Dip is a must on weekends during football season.

Of course, I couldn’t leave well enough alone, so I recently went on a search to add another easy-to-make flavorful dip to my lineup. And, here it is… Crock Pot Beer Cheese Dip!

This six-ingredient recipe is so easy to make since you technically throw everything in the slow cooker and let it work its magic. I love serving this warm dip with all kinds of crunchy dippers like pretzels and kettle chips, but as a surprise, it’s delicious with grilled sausage, too.

How To Make Beer Cheese Dip

I’m keeping things simple with this recipe, but that does not mean we are giving up on flavor. I’ve picked great ingredients that, when combined, make the best beer cheese dip, and as a bonus, there’s very little prep time.

Make It In The Crock Pot

First, shred cheddar cheese. Shredding the cheese yourself will give better flavor and texture to the dip.
Next, add the cheese, cream cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and beer to the bowl of a slow cooker.
Set the heat to high and cook for 1 hour, stirring every 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and smooth.

Make It On The Stove Top

The good news is that this recipe can also be made on the stove.
Shred the cheese and add it to a pot with all the other ingredients.
Melt the cheese over medium-low heat, occasionally stirring, until all the ingredients are combined.

What Kind Of Beer Is Best For This Recipe?

It really depends on how much you like beer. I used a lager which has great taste but is a little lighter than a hoppy IPA which is a bit more intense but still works beautifully.

If you are not a beer drinker, you can use a non-alcoholic lager for this recipe.

How Do You Keep Cheese Dip From Burning In The Crock Pot?

The best way to keep the cheese dip from burning is to stir it often. Once the cheese has melted in the crock pot, it’s best to turn the heat to the “keep warm” setting.

Variations And Substitutions For This Recipe

This is a fun recipe to make your own. Here are a few ideas:

  • My recipe calls for sharp cheddar cheese, but you can easily change it up with other shredded cheese. Add Pepper Jack for a bit of spice, or smoked Gouda for deep flavor. Mozzarella and Gruyère are also great cheeses for this recipe.
  • Cooked, crumbled bacon would be outstanding. You could also add in cooked breakfast sausage or seasoned ground beef for a heartier dip.

How Do You Keep Cheese Dip Warm For A Party?

I use a small slow cooker or fondue pot to keep Beer Cheese Dip warm when served at a party.

I also like serving it in a bowl on a board with all the sides for dipping. It will be warm enough for folks to enjoy, and I promise it won’t last long!

What To Serve With Beer Cheese Dip

Beer Cheese Dip is a fabulous warm appetizer to serve at parties. With all the vibes of cheese fondue, you can get creative with dippers and sides. Some of my favorites are:

  • Any type of pretzel
  • Kettle chips and tortilla chips
  • Veggies like broccoli, carrots, celery, or cauliflower
  • Grilled kielbasa or other smoked sausages.
